To the overseas Chinese media,

  Introduction to Beijing Paralympic Games

The Beijing Paralympic Games will be held on September 6-17, 2008. Being an edition of the Paralympic Games with the largest number of sports in history, it will have a total of 20 sports in the whole Games. Among the total, 18 sports will be held in Beijing, with sailing in Qingdao and equestrian in Hong Kong. Over 4,000 athletes and 2,500 coaches as well as officials from approximately 150 countries and regions will take part in the Paralympiad. The slogan is 'One World One Dream', the same for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. BOCOG has been making great strides in its preparation for both the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games, aiming at ensuring an equal splendor for the two Games.

Accreditation Procedure and Timeline

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), on the basis of experience from previous Paralympic Games, is working to offer all media representatives an efficient and pleasant accreditation service. Paralympic Identity and Accreditation Card (PIAC) is under categories of E (Journalist), EP (Photographer), ENR (Non-rights holding broadcast orgnaization). The Accreditation Application Forms for E and EP will be returned to BOCOG through the National Paralympic Committees, and ENR will be directly applied to the International Paralympic Committee. PIACs, along with a passport (valid at least until December 31, 2008) or other official travel documents will serve as a multiple-entry visa to enter China including Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong SAR) from August 6, 2008 to October 16, 2008.  BOCOG will send pre-valid PIACs through NPCs in July 2008 to all press participants who have submitted valid applications for accreditation and usable photographs prior to the deadline for accreditation applications on May 2, 2008. If an application is submitted after the deadline, the applicant will not receive the PIAC in advance of his/her entry to China for the Paralympic Games. In this case, the participant will have to apply for an entry visa.

Opening Ceremony for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games

The two-stage press accreditation application process will be conducted for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. The first stage, starting from November 2007, requires each National Paralympic Committee to fill in the names and contact details of media organizations and individuals interested in coming to the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. All PRESS BY NUMBER forms are to be completed and returned to BOCOG before 14 January 2008. The second stage of the press accreditation process will start on 4 March 2008. It involves the completion of the PRESS BY NAME Accreditation Forms by each press organization where they identify each individual press representative to be accredited from their organization. The completed forms must be returned to BOCOG by the NPCs before 2 May 2008.

We warmly welcome the overseas Chinese media to cover and report the Paralympic Games. Please make contact with the National Paralympic Committee within the state or region as soon as possible, and complete the relevant procedure of accreditation. The press in the state or region without National Paralympic Committee, may directly apply to the International Paralympic Committee for the accreditation.
